I have cleaned up all kinds of messes, over & over. Floors have always been the biggest pain for me. The pitter patter of 16 feet can spread a lot of dirt around.
So what was I thinking when I painted my kitchen floor white & off white? Ya it looks good in the picture but it's so NOT GOOD. It is always dirty. Really dirty. I sweep it, scrub it.
It's always dirty.
Duh...
IT'S A WHITE FLOOR-

(NOTE TO SELF- next time you get the bright idea to spend days on your hands & knees painting a floor, paint it dirt color)
*do you know what I can put on top of my painted floor to make it easier to clean?
*have you ever painted anything white?
*I am glad I did this before painting my kitchen cabinets white, which is what I would like to do... or maybe I should paint them white with dirt colored specks?

It may be hard to clean, but it sure looks pretty. Is is the concrete that is painted, or is it wood? On our concrete floor we used some kind of topcoat that makes it fairly easy to clean. But white floor is an entirely different story.
Whit floor & so many people... You are very brave & crazy!!! But I think it looks good & you did a fantastic job. That's the way to be creative & think outside the box..
I painted a entertainment center white & when my son was little he took a red crayon to it...
At least it's not white carpet! My best cleaning tip is equal parts water and white vinegar. It worked wonders on our laminate (Pergo) floor in our old house.
Wow- a white floor-
My mom painted her floor and covered it with something- it wiped up really easy- I will have to check to see if she can remember what she used.
We painted our cabinets white- and I do love them. They wipe down really easy- I probably keep them more clean than they were before, because as soon as something gets on them you see it. Wipe it quick and its done.
It really is beautiful...your floor! I too, struggle to keep my white tile clean...CRAZY! But at least it was not my choice, came with the house...I am ready to change it up. Seriously! I'm private, but I'll share...courtneymilius@hotmail.com
You can check at a paint store and see if something like polyurethene(sp) would help. I have a ton of it if you need some! That is what I put on my counters and cupboards to protect them. I have done a lot of stupid things in my life when I came up with the idea I thought is was a great idea and then later wondered what in the world was I thinking!!!!!
oh but it's soooo pretty, i love it! plus, the dirt just adds charm, who doesn't have a dirty floor? seriously, stress less. and, i'm painting my cabinets black - yup, black!
I'm with Kristy on the polyurethane, but if you've already put that on and it's still hard to clean...my idea is to make the whitle look dirty on purpose by glazing it and mixing in a color that is a shade or two darker than the white you used...maybe some of the yellow added with the white paint and a glaze and then you take a platic bag and go over the area that's painted...it's hard to explain, but I did a wall at my house you could look at to see if it helps you visualize. You could try it on just a few squares and then repaint them if you don't like it.
It IS very pretty--I like the pattern. Just roll with it, don't stress!
my kitchen cabinets are a lovely shade of white-with-fingerprints. fortunately, they are very easy to clean.
i love your floor!!
It is really pretty...and that has to count for something? I don't have any good answers...I thought Karrie's idea sounds good but then there is more painting!
Hi Patsy
I'm new to SPT and let me first say that I had to read twice that you have been a mom for 21 years. You look fabulous. Your floor looks fabulous too, but I understand the problem with white. Our carpet was white when we bought our house, but with no landscaping in the backyard and after a winter full of snowy, mucky days it is now a patchwork of stains and dirt. I hate it.
I think if you do something to the floor that would keep them from showing the love of 16 (soon to be 18) feet through your home, it might throw off the "balance" you are working so hard on this year.
Plus, we like to see you roll your eyes once in a while, it makes us feel more normal.
Don't stress, just do your best!
Hugs!!!!
Patsy, I must say, it's very nice to know that you get dirty floors. I just knew you had to have at least one flaw that is keeping you from being translated.
White is my favorite color, but it always shows so much dirt. I have a light colored floor too and it's always dirty! Oh well, so is life.
Your floor is beautiful! But I have a bathroom where we put in a white tile floor. Seriously, what was I thinking?? I want to paint my kitchen cabinets black.
