women's conference 2014

I know it's been a couple of months since Women's conference... back in May...
but I just have to document it & I am playing catch up here.
Plus I am just now seeing that you can watch some of the conference on TV!
Here are the listings- I am going to schedule some on the DVR- love that.

This year's Women's Conference- a definition and information can be found here-
was really good for me. I was so lucky to have my darling sister in law Beth & Ruthie go with me!
We had a ball- truly it is such a great time.
The speakers were fantastic & it was such a great way to fill my cup.

The first night we met up with all these guys for dinner-
they are all busy working & raising babies.
It's hard to get away... but one of these days they will make it.

-Special - Special-
I got to see my dear friend Stephanie & her mom!
She & I have been friends since we were sunbeams (3 years old!)
I adore her- and her mom is fabulous... love them both.
What a treat- to get to see them!!

Ruthie took these pictures of us.

Before conference was over we were lucky enough to get tickets to see
an amazing art exhibit at the Museum of Art there at BYU.
It was incredible. I hate to even bring it up- because it's over now.
But really it was such an amazing opportunity to see this art work up close & in real life.
I love that I have been lucky enough to go to this conference multiple times in my life.

more adventures of jack

Jack O' Jack
As you may remember- Jack was having some real health issues at the end of 2013 & has had some real health issues for a while... We have had test, after test, after test...  basically to find out that nothing is seriously wrong. That's great news! Still- he has had a lot of annoying little health issues since he contracted Dengue Fever & Malaria & lots of Salmonella poisoning on his LDS Mission to Brasil.
Sounds fun huh!? Anyway- he has been much better. He had his last test- an MRI in February and is learning to listen to his body (this is sarcasm)- eat better (more sarcasm)- get better sleep (ya you should know by now) All the things his mother tells him. So he can build up strength & his body can heal from the trauma it went through. Ya- he is doing all that.

(Jack on May 29, 2014- a good ol' fashioned American Breakfast of sausage, eggs, toast, oj & milk)

Then he & his buddy Corey decided - life is short- let's do something grand.
The two of them made a plan. They planned & planned & bought a map. They studied it out, planned some more - then did it. Bought two tickets to Europe for a FIVE WEEK BACKPACKING TRIP. You know- the kind of trip the rest of us talk about taking, but very few do it.
They bought just the right clothes. Only one pair of shoes- can't carry extra shoes ya know. One pair that could take them all over Europe, but still to church on Sunday & a trip here.

The bought just the right backpacks, sleeping bags- shoes etc.
They could only take 22 lbs.

Jack is a senior at Brigham Young University.
A history major. He has taken a couple of European history classes & was so excited to really see all the things he has been learning about.

We drove to the airport in the morning & I dropped them both at the curb.

People would ask me if I was worried, or nervous?
HA! Corey was a missionary in Columbia- Jack in the most dangerous city in Brasil.
(As long as they didn't run into hoards of mosquitoes) Europe- piece of cake.

For the next 5 weeks we lived on the edge of every email & Instagram post.
Half way through his trip we found out about a free app called Viber - then we could call & text.
They started out the adventure in London, England.
Next Paris, then Rome, Florence & Milan.
From there they met another friend in Switzerland, and went to the Czech Republic, Germany & last but not least they flew home from Poland.

It was an absolute thrill to see all of their photos!
So fun- they are still up if you want to check them out.

Brett's family on both sides come from Switzerland-
so here is is in the Swiss Alps.

Corey is an amazing photographer- if you want to see some excellent photos of Europe and other places..- check him out. REally- you'll be glad you did.

On June 3, 2014
after Chloe had gone to prom, finished & graduated seminary & high school, both sets of grandparents visited, his dad celebrated his 50th birthday.... a lot happened in those 5 weeks
we got ready for him to come home.

We got his room all put back together & Trent made this sign out of wood...?
Wood- he nearly took down a few people with this huge wood sign- dear me!
He wrote:

"Kill all the pirates," in the corner.
Me: Trent, why does it say kill all the pirates?
Trent: Well I started to write - kiss the ground then wrote kill on accident. The only thing I could think of with kill - was kill all the pirates.
Okay then?

These two stayed mostly in Hostels & with friends in Germany etc.
But also- spent a few nights on the streets & at least two nights in a cave off the coast of Italy, with the beach at their feet. Oh my- it's a good thing they are young! It's so fun to hear about all their adventures.

It was a long 5 weeks of not showering regularly- and he hadn't shaved or had a haircut since a week before his last final in the testing center. Let me tell ya, he is pretty darn proud of it at this point too.

Not gonna lie-
I was thrilled for him.
Thrilled he got to go on this trip.
It's for sure a trip of a lifetime! While he was there he found out his last year at BYU he earned an academic scholarship! So happy- can you tell I'm just a little proud of this kid?
Still- I'm glad he's back- was back. He's off to work & his internship & this weekend another adventure to see one of his roommates is get married here on Saturday

Prom 2014

All the posts here lately seem to be focusing on Chloe-
She has had a lot going on!
In April- late one night- there was a knock at the door.
No one was there but there were 15 bananas placed throughout the yard.

Each had a piece of paper with the word - banana- sticking out of it on a toothpick.
Until... there was an
orange.

Chloe was nervous & thrilled & excited!
We were all dying to know who this boy was.
we figured it out and...
It was the nicest boy who had gone to school with her since Kindergarten.
Truly- she was over- the- moon that he had asked her.
I'm talking Valedictorian, going to college on a full scholarship in California, super talented & nice...
Right now- if you have daughters- you know exactly how I felt at that moment.
I don't even know how to describe it.

(Brian is holding a pair of black glasses in his hand & they are up against his black pants.. ha! He is not flying the bird.)

When these four left for the Priesthood Session, Saturday night.
Chloe & I went shopping.

The Saturday before that-
the girls & I were lucky enough to get tickets to the General Women's Meeting!
Live tickets!! It was a thrill to be there & with my girls. Megan was home with new baby Peter.
It was so great to be there- I kept thinking back over the past year & all my worries.
I loved being there- shed lots of tears of gratitude.
And said many prayers of thanks.
I am so grateful to be a woman- I am so thankful to be a mother.

A good friend of mine is a secretary for the agriculture department of the church and had some really good tickets - 25 rows back. I cannot tell you enough how good this was for me. I am so thankful for my church. I love the gospel of Jesus Christ. It has seen me through so many tough times & I cannot express...
well- another post for that.

So back to the story...
Chloe & I went shopping in the little downtown shops near our town.

AND FOUND A PROM DRESS!
JUST LIKE THAT- NO SWEAT- NO STRESS- JUST FOUND THE MOST PERFECT DRESS IN THE WORLD? IT'S UNHEARD OF--

(Prom hair & makeup practice day)

Again- if you have daughters- you know exactly how much of a miracle this whole event was... and she hadn't even been to the dance yet!

The dress:
It's a light blue 1950's vintage dress we found in a dress/antique boutique.
It was perfect! It's so Chloe & fit her like it was made for her.
How I wish we knew the story of this dress...
but for now we know- it had just arrived that day.

and we bought it!

The night of the dance-
Her date picked her up & she was as cool as a cucumber.
The first thing he said when he saw her was-
You look Amazing
OH MY GOSH
My heart melted- what a nice guy.
I was so happy for Chloe.
This was the perfect way to end the year.
It was like she had a real Cinderella ending. It was fantastic.
Like - good things happen to nice girls fantastic-
You know?
If you have daughters- or even if you don't
I think you will get it.
Not that Chloe isn't a nice girl... not that she didn't deserve to have a great prom date... it's just in real life we don't always get what we need or even deserve.
Enjoy the rest of these pictures.

They had a great time-
It's all I can do not to hug that kid & tell his mother that she raised such a great son.
I will- I will do both.
I just can't yet- not without bawling like a crazy stalker lady.
I don't want to scare them....
I'll let you know when it happens.
