my saturday

Typically I work on Saturday mornings.
Not today!
Today I woke up to - all the boys in the house, Gone Fishing.
(Jack has gone fishing every Saturday but one since he has come home from Brazil.)
Just Chloe, Hailey & I- sleeping in.
 It was glorious.
I headed out the door to meet with a sweet lady, I am making a quilt for- she had me come over to see the colors of the room it will hang in. I am thrilled to have a paying project!
Then the girls & I got donuts, Hailey drove Chloe to ballet, & the boys came home (Brian caught 3 fish)
Then after much discussion about who, when & where--- the big boys & I went shopping for some new summer clothes for the former missionary Jack. The discussion over what/when/where would we/some of us/just us/who?? would go shopping etc. was quite comical & Jack was fairly positive he would NOT be shopping. BUT WE MADE IT-- the three of us out the door. Unfortunately everyone else had somewhere else to be & the details of all that was just too much. Oh golly- do you ever have times like that? Times when just getting out the door seems so ridiculous that you just wanna scream-
Leave now or I'm not going! Pee or get off the pot!
Too much talk about who, when, where to go... geez louiz- let me tell you- I was not born to shop.

Or at least that's what I thought. Oh man, these two had me in stitches the whole shopping trip. It was so much fun. We laughed & laughed-- I nearly wet my pants again & again. I'm pretty sure it was divine intervention that kept us from getting in a car accident. They had funny story after story from their mission days & were teasing each other ruthlessly over their weight- or lack there of. The jokes & digs & ducking out of the way before the other whooped him- kept me in a constant state of the giggles.
You will be happy to know that they DID NOT buy those two hats above- but Jack is now ready for summer. Some new shorts & t-shirts were definitely in order.

It was a quite night getting ready for my cooking class Sunday morning & cake.
I made this lovely cake.
~Great Saturday~
How was yours?

shopping for maternity clothes... some things never change-

REally- there are a lot of great new things out there when it comes to maternity clothes. Old Navy & the Gap have a line of cute stuff- but last Thursday night Ruthie, Megan & I found some real winning...blog worthy stuff.

{ruthie- modeling the "faux belly"}
Motherhood Maternity has a HUGE store in Orem, Utah.

Huge, like 10 times as big as the one in Megan's town.
they even have a "faux belly" to help you see how things will fit.
I don't know why but this polka dotted dress with the belly underneath- sent me into belly laughs... so funny. It's hard to see, but it's really lumpy & ya- maybe you had to be there?
how about this-- every pregnant woman needs a big bow right between the...?

(it says-- let the love grow)
This one was so tacky- oh my- who wear this stuff?
someone must or they wouldn't sell it, right?

This one comes with stretch marks on the OUTside.....

They have these too- Belly bars.... ?
they even have these new candies to suck on that are supposed to curb morning sickness
interesting
SEriously though- megan got so many cute things!!
Now she just has to grow into them....

new jersey grocery & cooking crazed

I really love grocery shopping.
I have a food "thing." It's frankly pretty obvious from my backside, if you know what I mean?
Sounds silly but you can Italictell a lot about a community by what's in their grocery stores.
After getting to our hotel during our trip, we ran to the store to grab a couple of essentials, like water bottles to take into the city- snacks & some kid friendly foods for Trent.

I was so glad I brought my camera!

Shoprite here in New Jersey they had an amazing produce section!
Chloe said- "people in New Jersey must eat really healthy...."
then she said-- "look at those huge plums!"
So- I've never cooked egg plant? have you?
Also- look at these really great brussel spouts on the vine here. I've never seen them sold like this in a grocery store. We may not eat egg plant, but we love brussel sprouts.
A lot of brands have different names from East to West.
Does anyone know why?
Dreyers Ice Cream is Edy's here...
We love Dreyers & don't have coconut pineapple flavored- at least I've never seen it- but want to!

The prominent religion in Utah is of course Latter Day Saint. We don't have Matzo Balls in the freezer section - I'm sure you can get them somewhere...

But I don't know about Kosher Cokeor pickled tomatoes.
This was a fantastic opportunity to talk about Passover & world religions. I WIsh we had this stuff.

I've seen this brand on TV- but not at the store. Yum- I didn't think we could eat or should eat a whole tub of marshmallow fluff in just 4 days so I passed.

A whole section of restaurant quality Italian food!
Now this is living!
We are totally missing out here... there were all kinds of Italian specialties. Here at home- I've gone cooking crazy!
I've been cooking up a storm ever since I got back.
I don't know if it was the week off or what... but besides making jam-I've put casseroles in the freezer- made a huge pot of marinara & froze 3 quarts-
I've made Kristy's bread sticks-- so good.
Banana bread... cookie dough & last night I made rolls to go with our lasagna...
and put two extra lasagnas in the freezer!

This is my favorite roll recipe & it will be on Blogger mom's cook- later.
*do you like to grocery shop?
*have you ever cooked with eggplant?
*have you ever seen Kosher Coke?

random monday

I love this picture of jack not wanting to get his picture taken waiting to leave for the dance. Why- because on Friday the senior class went up on the mountain to paint "their letter" white. You can see the white paint still stuck on his scalp. He was covered in white paint... I wasn't home & didn't get a photo!!! dang- I have pictures of megan & brian covered in white paint from their senior years- maybe someone has a picture out there?Sunday we drove down to the newlywed's apartment & had lunch with them. They are so cute- they have a darling apartment- I love them. Trent wanted to see everything- oh thanks for being patient guys.
Today I went shopping with the peanut & my sister.
Look who's walking- the peanut! gosh I just can't believe how cute this guy is & already walking? amazing- i guess he is a whloe year old now. It always takes him a while to warm up to me. He refused to smile. I think he was just so serious about buying this chair.

back to school shopping

tonight grandma, hailey, jack & I ran on down to our neighborhood Kohl's to do a little school shopping. I have to tell you- shopping with boys is much easier than girls- no offense girls... but if you can get boys to actually go shopping it's a lot easier. Shirts, tennis shoes, jeans - done.Jack informed me that I have "laughing issues." We found this bargain t-shirt for a mere $1.80. It had a monkey passing gas & the caption-
"I'm bringing stinky back"
on the front. For some reason I just broke down right there & nearly busted a lung laughing- really hard. The picture is a little blurry from shaking for sure. What in the world people? Who makes up this stuff- for real? I don't care if it was $1.80 & an extra 20% off that with the bonus buy... that is just wrong. (do you think a woman designed that- no way!?)I had a great time sitting in the men's dressing room with my camera. There was one seat in there & I took it. I also learned that a woman in the men's dressing room with a camera-
makes other men... a little nervous. Finally I just went into the dressing room stall with jack- he is not worried at all having his mom with him in the dressing room- but my girls would rather die. Boys & girls= different for sure. Jack actually asked hailey & grandma for their advice picking out some shoes. they ultimately didn't have his size in the ones we were looking at. We did find a pair really similar to the ones Max peed in last winter... & they were on sale for $19.97- score. I guess if jack wants to keep these ones he'll be nicer to the dog- or hide them- or something.
* are your kids in school yet?
*did you do any school shopping?
*what do you think about rude captions on t-shirts?
