fall sewing

It is so beautiful in Utah right now.
Pictures do not do justice to how beautiful the mountains & trees are.
It's absolutely breath taking.
It's lucky I haven't gotten in a car accident -- I love the views.

Yesterday I finished up two projects.
First this baby quilt-

Seriously cute boy fabrics for Laura's nephew.
I'm really happy to get this done- he is 7 or 8 months old now. Geez Louizzz

The very minute I finished the baby quilt I started making these--

Super Hero Capes!

My number 1 Grandson Charlie is turning 3 at the end of the month-
3
can you believe it!?
Three is the perfect age for a reversible Batman/Super Charlie cape.

And every good Nana knows that it's no fun playing super heroes alone.
So I'm sending along a

reversible Super Joey/Superman.
That way Joey or a friend can play along too.

(my model: Super Grandpa)

I searched through pinterest & found a template I liked.
Then free handed a bit & wa-la!
These were so fun to make-- really fun.
I've been thinking of all kinds of boy themed sewing & crafts these days.

sewing up a storm

Yesterday & today...
I've been sewing up a storm
First up
Tonight I finished a doll quilt to match the baby quilt I took to the quilter a couple of weeks ago. It's for a darling little girl, Lily who is going to be a big sister soon. Hopefully she will love snuggling her baby doll while her mom snuggles her new sister.
I will be posting the full sized quilt as soon as it's ready!

Yesterday I finally....
made this pillow.
I've been thinking about making this pillow for over a month now.

I saw a similar pillow at an upscale store & Loved it.
I thought for sure I could find an old sweat & make my own.
Then I was cleaning out my closet- and found an old yellow sweater.
Ta Dah!
It made a perfect yellow throw pillow to go in my red & yellow living room.
Oh it feels good to get a project done!

one of the best gifts I've ever been given

About 21 years ago I was given a gift.Brett's sweet Aunt Barbara gave me her sewing machine.
I'm sure when she bought it - it was the top of the line.
Most of her life she made her own clothes.
This machine had seen a lot of use, but had been treated royally.

She gave it to me & I started learning. I had taken a sewing class in H.S. - that was great, but I had a long way to go. One week in R.S. Homemaking meeting there was a sewing class. I brought my "new machine" and a baby megan along. A really nice girl- I can't even remember her name- helped me with a project & taught me the basics on how to use this gift.

Last winter- she broke. The machine was really touchy when it came to the bobbin. Hailey was using it & pushed it a little too far. No problem - no sweat- because when Brett's Grandmother passed away, she left me this:

The exact same machine.

It was waiting in the basement. Who knows how long it had been since it had been used? Years & years- probably decades. DEfInateLy decades. Brett's Grandmother was over 90 when she passed. I oiled her up & started off again.

Unfortunately... over a week ago- it was over. sigh.

She can spin a bobbin- but not a good one! After a good week of trying & a phone call to the sewing repair shop... it's over. Really over.

Lucky for me-
4-5 years ago I bought this little singer on clearance for $40 at Target.
It was up in Chloe's closet. She had big plans for it.
It's Not the top of the line...
It's NOT my dream machine.
But it works-
and will have to do for now.
Even though I have thanked her many, many times for the gift - again I thank you Aunt Barbara for the sewing machine. It has brought so much joy to my life- learning to sew.

pillow love

I just finished this pillow-
Oh how I love it!!
Even though...
it took forever to sew those buttons on.
I think it was worth it.

By the way,
buttons are 1/2 price at JoAnn's Fabrics this week.

Yesterday this good lookin' stud & I went to watch rugby jack.
Isn't he cute?!!
He always looks so cute on saturdays with his holey jeans & bbcap.
I just look like one of those frumpy, lipless, mom's who has lost all desire to live.

I have no sense of style...
Oh how I wish I had one!
-I just don't-
There was this really cute mom there with cute jeans & darling mary jane shoes on. I just kept staring at her. I'm sure she thought I was a nutso out of my mind. I was studying her clothes, thinking-- how did she do that?
It was Super Windy & sunny & I had to use my Sunset magazine to keep the sun & wind out of my face. I forgot to mention the other day that I get Sunset magazine. It's okay. The publishers of Cottage LIving are sending it to me since they have been discontinued! I am so sad about this. I read it faithfully from cover to cover. It was my very favorite magazine of all time!! If I would've known I would've saved all my past issues. I was trying to be good, get junk out of the house, recycle- dang it!!!
I am in mourning still....
Trent & his asperger friend were playing in the park behind me. I have said this before- when those two get together They SAy the FuNNIEst things!!

NOw of course, I can't remember them exactly- but one of them had to go to the bathroom, the bathrooms were locked, we ended up running to mcdonalds & I got the play by play on how it all came out- if you know what I mean- over & over.

We don't talk about these things unless we really need to- or if we want to explain the whole drama to dad who missed the whole story- we repeat it- that way dad knows what mom had to go through on the way back to the rugby field.

rugby jack's team won by a whopping 60 something to 9.

I think. I was watching intently. REally I was! When jack got taken down by the neck, I gasped, then just decided not to watch as intently. Maybe what I don't know won't kill me? It was a really good game. No injuries. We won.

He's got a good team this year.

They mixed with another high school in the area so now he's not the team captain & doesn't start every game- so that's a bummer. But it's a decent team & they are making a good showing.

(the stud & his boy)
I have been so inspired lately by
V & Company
I found her great blog last week & I keep going back.

I decided to get out some material & make a quilt.
I have been working on it a little this week then I got CRazy & couldn't stop working on it Friday night & Saturday. I pretty much didn't get my chores done & now Sunday is not set up like it should be..... I love sewing love it- but I LOSE what little mind I have whenever I start a project like this. I just can't stop. If I stop- it won't get done- I think?! Balance- where are you?

But- look how great it is turning out to be!

The sashing is a little wider than I wanted it to be...

My sewing/laundry room is completely trashed now. It just never ends. I am hoping to get the quilt done tomorrow & take it to my friend who is a quilter. I cannot wait until it is ready to be bound!

I am wrapping this up to put in the mail tomorrow!

Today at church it was a missionary farewell. (sniff sniff)- this missionary is going to Mozambique. Oh I am so grateful, for my baby being in Chile. I thought Chile sounded far away?

It was a great meeting- I can't really sum it up- just really good

All in All- it's been a crafty, sewing kind of weekend, mixed with some rugby, dishes, grocery shopping, ballet carpool & cooking.

I am putting one of my all time favorite desserts on

blogger mom's cook tonight-

check it out later :)

creative thursday with photos!

Even though my camera wasn't working...
I got some pictures this week from creative thursday
thanks to Janae for letting me use her camera!!
(view from my place at the table)
I am on a sewing kick & loving it.
I don't usually like to tote my machine around-
besides being old... it's really heavy.
I am so glad I brought it today - I got a lot a project done that
I am thrilled about.
Having a day out of the house-
getting something creative done-
spending time with these great friends-
PLUS janae made the most delicious chocolate cake-
MY FAvorITE!
Not to mention hearing all about Karrie's
fun trip- Karrie just got home this week from a cruise.
She is so adventurous. Traveling to the Dominican Republic and on stand by!
Oh the stories...
I'm so glad you made it home-
And with SAnd for my collection!!
thanks
Here's what I'm working on-

creating.... cupcake aprons

So this week- I have a couple of friends with birthdays.... I wanted to create something special- so I have been making cupcake aprons.
It's been really fun to get back to sewing & working with fabric. The problem is I really can't multi task when sewing. I get completely obsessed with finishing & perfection & everything around me falls down. I cannot clean or cook or think- it's a complete commitment.
Maybe that's why I like to sew.
Maybe that's why I don't do it very often

The only think I know for sure is. Jack is one great apron model- he's got it all! He's tall & skinny & boney & everything. I think this could be a career. If only he would not have taken the camera from me (while I was laughing so hard I almost started to cry) and deleted my other pictures... coward!
He says I owe him a blizzard - what do you think?
