what to do in our town on a friday night

Friday nights are pretty hoppin in our town...
that is if you work at the DQ!
Brett & I mentioned to Trent & the neighbor kid that we were going & -boom- they were out in the car- hiding.
Ha ha- NOT.
Brett had been gone for two nights on business. It felt like a two weeks. When he got home... I had just finished meeting with the webelo scouts (trent acted like a 2 year old beast), had no make up on, a huge zit on my chin & was wearing a lovely pair of sweats, ratty ol' BYU t-shirt & sandals. I'm kind of fancy that way. Lucky for me he over looked all that & took me to dinner (no I didn't change) and shopping where he insisted he buy me a new camera. That guy is a keeper- I tell ya!these are the first pictures taken with my new Nikon D40!!! WOW- it's amazing & I feel like a professional photographer. I've been shooting up a storm & loving it.
I guess the flash was a little bright-
I took about five shots of these two & this was the best they could do.

I'm sure I've mentioned it before- but the local DQ is a mad house on the weekends. The owner- her son was on the same mission as Brian & has been home over a year now- told us at the fabulous scout field trip last month that it's the top performing DQ in the west! I believe it- there is at least 10 cars in line at the drive threw & a full parking lot nearly every night. This night was no exception.
We bought some Star kisses & Dilly bars & headed back home to eat them in the grass & look at the stars. We have had a lot of cool, clear nights with super starry skies. The big dipper & North Star are in plain view just out our front door, its fantastic.

After setting up a blanket in the grass I turned around to see these two.
They were pretty bummed that I wouldn't let them out.
I didn't feel like seeing them get nearly hit by a car or apologizing to some innocent neighbor after they accosted someone. Ya- it had been a long day.
What do you like to do on Friday nights?
Is there a local hot spot in your town?

mother's day weekend

Yesterday we drove down to Cedar City to my new son in laws parent's wonderful home for an open house. Tony's mom & dad are so great! They had a lovely open house for megan & tony. It was so nice. The happy couple got more great gifts to go in the basement until they return from their 12 week internship in the south. It was a great chance for us to get away after a couple of really busy weeks. I am sad to say that this is the only picture brett took- I took none. I am pictured out, totally sick of taking & being in pictures. It's true.
Now I have none to document our fun weekend.
Dang it.
Oh well, here is a run down of the great time we had.
*As we were getting ready to leave the missionary called- we planned on calling him from my parents house in but he called a day early. We were late getting on the road, but who cares...my missionary called from Chile!!!!! It was the first of only 3 phone calls we will get in the next 1 1/2 years until we go down to pick him up. He is great, loving missionary work, missing American chocolate (not for long), told me he cried when he found out about the wedding (sniff, sniff), but is happy & busy. He is especially hoping to get sent down to the volcano area when it calms down to help with the clean up. What an adventure that would be!! It was GREAT to talk to him. I love him & miss him but I am so happy that he is happy & I can't wait to get a package off to him this week.
*driving in the car with only 4 kids & a dog.
*stopping at DQ where everyone got to pick any one thing on the menu they wanted! Fun - just in case you are wondering...
jack- watermelon freeze float
hailey- georgia mud fudge blizzard
chloe- brownie sundae
trent- onion rings & rootbeer- Okay he got two things - spoiled.
*trent peeing on the side of the road & jack trying to talk him into walking up a little hill so everyone driving by could see. Trent didn't fall for it but brett did take a cute photo of his backside- I'm not including it even though it is funny.
*visiting with megan & tony's family & friends at the open house, then watching them open more great gifts! I'm telling you, they have a great thing going!
*Mother's day dinner with my mom & dad saturday night. Brett took us out for my mother's day present. It was super fun & the most delicious mexican food.
*grandma & grandpa taking us swimming even though it was late at their pool.
*brett set up our present for mom. A sweet little humming bird feeder. she is going to love watching the birds out her dining room window.
*sleeping in & then taking a nap on mother's day- nice- thanks mom
*grandma teaching the girls & I how to make the most delicious artisan bread. I can't wait to make some & put it on the cooking blog.
*driving home & stopping at Brittany's. Brett roughhoused with the dog then when we got back on the road he threw up on his blanket. Jack & hailey just about had heart attacks- such babies. Poor max had been in the car just a little too long this weekend.
*coming home- I love being home!
Thanks for the great weekend mom & dad!

wedding count down

The wedding is four days away people--- four days away!
Oh my, I am so busy with details, running errands- oh man- I hope I don't forget anything.
This morning I drove morning piano lessons, school, sent kids to school, showered, went to the doctor with brett (long story-it's cool), picked up some stuff for megan, picked up Sky, bought one more vase for the dinner (we need one more table), went to a quick lunch
Then...
before we went to the florist, party store for a card board cut out of President Bush- we are putting a blown up picture of the missionary's head over his head so that brian can "be" at the wedding....
we picked up her new puppy pete who just had surgery today. He was "fixed" or as the missionary called it when the procedure was done on Max... "no dos huevos."
He was so cute! He got so excited to see his momma I had to take a video. He was numbed up & all loopy- he really isn't in pain- (sorry about the side ways shot.)

When I got back Hailey had a dentist appointment. I picked trent up early from school, his allergies are off the chart so we went & got more allergy meds. I drove ballet carpool. Thank goodness for a crock pot recipe because I didn't have time to really make dinner.

Then- Jack gave our family night lesson- very good by the way-

and most importantly- we went to DAiry Queen. I love my little town's DQ. It's owned by the thompson's & they are the greatest. Monday night at dairy queen is quite the experience. Just about 1/2 the town shows up. There were literally 12 cars in line at the drive threw & maybe 3 parking spaces empty. The place is hoppin I tell ya!

Brett didn't want me to take his picture- coward.

He & jack are party poopers on the photos.

Chloe wanted me to document the most perfect twist cone ever.

And look at this guy- he is so funny he was licking his starkiss while falling asleep.

So funny!!!

well sorry all I ever write about is the wedding.

I am losing commentors- is it getting really boring?

by the way...Saturday I just about had a heart attack after seeing a 75+ year old woman wearing what I am wearing to the wedding Saturday at the temple... crap- should I go out & buy a new outfit?? Please give your opinion on this- I don't know what to do!

what would you do?
