this summer

This past summer
Trent was just itching to build something!
He decided it would be a house, fort- play house for the nephews-
nearly every week it changed.
The folks at Home Depot were so awesome- truly!
Brett & Trent ran over there countless days for "supplies."
When Brett mentioned Trent had Asperger's Syndrome & was building a fort all on his own, they offered him a discount. For the rest of the summer they could get boards from their -not so great- board pile for an excellent price. It was a great learning opportunity for Trent.
Now- fast forward to October & the fort is all taken apart & laying in a pile under the apple tree. Next spring they are going to draw up plans & build a tree house for Trent & all the grandsons.
Trent is lucky- lucky we are patient & we haven't killed him by now.
Lucky to have such a great dad.

We saw a couple of movies!
I have remembered how much I love to go to the movies.
For years we didn't go very often if ever- just too much going on with a little one with autism etc.

Hailey & her friend Ryan who have been dating almost a year now!

We saw Disney's Planes
and
Despicable Me 2
and
The Way Way Back
I loved them all- but I am aware I am not a good movie judge since
I just like any movie in the theater really...

When Chloe had home visits I tried to make her favorite food.

Like Buttermilk fried chicken!

This picture is of a fire we saw taking her back to the hospital one Sunday night.
A fire started up in the West- wild fires are so scary & devastating- but isn't this picture incredible?

(brett & chloe out to lunch on a day visit)

We had some super fun day visits & family therapy.
Well, therapy wasn't always what you'd call fun, but it was good.

Here are Brett, Hailey & Chloe
taking a tour on Segways- one of Chloe's bucket list items.

We ate a lot of peaches & ice cream.
One of my favorite things in late summer & in life in general-

and we had a new back patio poured

and steps put in.
Sadly our deck died.
It was a good deck- but had to go.
The kind men who we hired to build our new patio & stairs were so nice to let Trent help them.
 It was an adventure.

All in all it was kind of a tough summer.
But I am glad we had it. I look forward to next summer & hopefully a little family vacation?
A girl can dream right?
I will acknowledge that God has never left us.
He doesn't leave us alone in our trials. He really doesn't.
It can certainly feel like it at times, oh I know that-
But in the lowest moments - those moments when I don't feel like I can take it anymore, or hurt any deeper, He has lifted my burdens
and
I am grateful

17 - Chloe's August Birthday

Chloe came home from the treatment center she has been living at (most of the time) this summer
just in time- for her birthday!
I asked her best buddies to come over during lunch & celebrate with us.

I made pizzas & we had soda & mini chocolate bundt cakes!

We had a family dinner too...
but I have no pictures of that.
Oh the shame.

Or maybe we just had everyone here for lunch?
Gosh I don't even remember.
Tony couldn't have been here? I see Jack & Emily but no Brian & Laura & the twinners?

Anyhow---
We were so happy to have Chloe home & So happy to be celebrating her birthday.
It's been a long hard year for her.
Someday when she is ready- should be soon- I will post about her struggle with mental illness.
But for now- She is doing very well & should be discharged and living at home for good- soon.
Like, real soon.
Even possibly the end of the month.
-sigh-
That will be awesome and kind of scary & mostly awesome.
I just love her so much & want to fix it all - immediately.
life just doesn't work that way
But- it does get better- and it is
getting better.
So- if anyone out there is struggling with depression, anxiety, or especially tourette syndrome- just know that it gets better. It always gets better. It may get worse before it gets better, but it will get better.

Chloe with her BIG present!
TWO TICKETS TO SEE HER FAVORITE PERSON IN THE WORLD...
BILL COSBY
He is coming to Salt Lake City in February & it's on her bucket list to see him in person!
So excited we got these tickets for her.
I love you Chloe
You are one Brave, Strong, Valiant, Beautiful, Loving, young woman.
I feel humble & blessed to be your mom.

a bbq, a miracle, and pie

Just before school started our congregation at church had a big BBQ & family party.

Chloe was home for the weekend & we all went together.
Nice.

After the BBQ there were loads of activities planned--
but a BIG RAIN STORM started up!
The committee over activities scrambled to change plans & set up Karaoke.
From the microphone- the leader of the activity asked me to come up & start the music-
UM- what? Me? You talking to me?
 NO WAY JoSE
He was insistent- absolutely insistent.
then
a
miracle
happened.
The power went out.
Again- it was confirmed to me-
 that God loves me.
He completely & fully loves me.

The moved on to the pie eating contest instead.
Here are the 12-18 year olds competing.

It was close

but Chloe won with Trent coming in a very close 2nd place.

boys r us

These are our twinners-

Finn & Crew
They are super excited for dinner!
Are they precious or what?
They are absolutely perfect in everyway.
Such a joy & only a mile away... for now.
I adore, adore, adore them.
They are smiley & giggly & have the softest skin.
Oh they are darling.

As you can see
Finn was fitted with a helmet last month & will probably wear it for another month or two.
It's amazing what doctors can do & so quickly!
This was the first day he got it- didn't even bother him.
These are the sweetest babies- not fussy at all!

Crew with-- Sofie the giraffe.

Having these two miracle babies around has been an absolute joy.
Truly a gift from God.
It is amazing what happiness & perspective & hope in the future
comes with the birth of a new child.

Matching outfits- HA!

(July 2013)

I am beyond pleased to announce
(it's been announced by megan on facebook, instagram, etc. months ago...)

She is over 18 weeks now & guess what?!
IT'S A BOY
We are loving the boys around here!

trent's birthday-- 14

Trent's birthday was in August-
and
IT WAS SO FUN!

We scheduled a party at the Microsoft Store downtown & it was GREAT.

Trent invited some friends & they got 3 hours of gaming
plus got all the questions they could think of- answered.

Trent & I had headed into the Microsoft Store a month or so before his birthday - (it was "his day" and this is what he picked to do.)  While we were there- the salesperson mentioned that they threw parties. All kinds of parties- and events- and they are FREE. Wow- Trent was so thrilled we signed him up for the day of his birthday & he nearly started crying. Okay then.

Each party guest was given a computer & game to play.
At this point the boys chose Minecraft.
Because we had reserved the time etc. we got to have the back play/learning area to ourselves.
Have I mentioned how fun this was?
Truly- the employees were so great with the boys & super easy to work with.
No high pressure selling - just fun.

NOt that they would have to do any high pressure selling-
Have you been in one of these stores?
THEY ARE AWESOME.
I found myself trying to figure out how to come up with some money for a couple of things I just had to have! (Luckily the voice of reason stepped in as we stepped out.)

After our time was up we headed over to the food court & got bread sticks & pizza.

The wonderful people at the Microsoft store even gave each of the boys a gift bag!

Trent- 14
It's hard to believe but yep-
this guy is really fourteen now.

We had a little family party the Sunday of his birthday week.

It is so great to have Megan & Tony & the boys here for family events now.

Trent chose pizza & cake-
his two favorite foods for dinner.

The recipe to this cake has been handed down from Grandma Messer
and is affectionately called
Elder Messers Mom's Chocolate Cake
It was given that name after one of the members in Brett's mission to South Africa
made it for him.

Trent is more than officially a teenager now.
He is one great kid.

Here's a sneak peek of Brian and one of the twins
Finn.
I will post an update on those cutie patooties tomorrow!

Brian & Finn- August 2013

P.S. I do not work for Microsoft nor does anyone in my family.
Well I have a niece whose husband does... I just was very impressed.
